چکیده

An edge in a k-connected graph G is called k-contractible if the graph G/e obtained from G by contracting e is k-connected. Generalizing earlier results on 3-contractible edges in spanning trees of 3-connected graphs, we prove that (except for the graphs Kk+1 if k ∈ {1, 2}) (a) every spanning tree of a k-connected triangle free graph has two k-contractible edges, (b) every spanning tree of a k-connected graph of minimum degree at least 3 2 k− 1 has two k-contractible edges, (c) for k > 3, every DFS tree of a kconnected graph of minimum degree at least 3 2 k− 3 2 has two k-contractible edges, (d) every spanning tree of a cubic 3-connected graph nonisomorphic to K4 has at least 1 3 |V (G)| − 1 many 3-contractible edges, and (e) every DFS tree of a 3-connected graph nonisomorphic to K4, the prism, or the prism plus a single edge has two 3-contractible edges. We also discuss in which sense these theorems are best possible. AMS classification: 05c40, 05c05.

Prevalence of parasitic infections in the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) and golden Jackal (Canis aureus) in Iran

Red foxes and golden jackals are the two most abundant wild carnivores of Iran which have the ability to adopt a variety of habitats and human proximity. Despite this, very few investigations on their helminth and none on their external parasites infections have been carried out in Iran. Between 2003 and 2004, a total of 79 jackals and 37 foxes were collected from 3 different climatic zones of ...

Endoparasites of the raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) and the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) in Denmark 2009–2012 – A comparative study

Invasive species negatively influence the biodiversity of the ecosystems they invade and may introduce pathogens to native species. Raccoon dogs have very successfully invaded Europe, including, recently, Denmark. This study included analyses of gastrointestinal helminths and Trichinella spp. from 99 raccoon dogs and 384 native red foxes collected from October 2009 to March 2012. The sedimentat...

Infection of red foxes with Echinococcus multilocularis in western Switzerland.

In the Jura mountains, Plateau and Alps of western Switzerland important variations in the prevalence of Echinococcus multilocularis infection in red foxes were observed between geographical areas from 1990 to 1995. The Jura mountains and the Plateau had higher mean prevalence levels than the Alps with 30.6, 32.4 and 18.8%, respectively. The highest rate was recorded in the Plateau in the canto...

Are Flying-Foxes Coming to Town? Urbanisation of the Spectacled Flying-Fox (Pteropus conspicillatus) in Australia

Urbanisation of wildlife populations is a process with significant conservation and management implications. While urban areas can provide habitat for wildlife, some urbanised species eventually come into conflict with humans. Understanding the process and drivers of wildlife urbanisation is fundamental to developing effective management responses to this phenomenon. In Australia, flying-foxes ...

Plasma marking of arctic foxes with iophenoxic acid.

Six arctic foxes (Alopex lagopus) were marked with iophenoxic acid (IA), a substance which elevates concentrations of protein-bound iodine in blood plasma. Buccal absorption of IA was determined by placing 20 mg IA dissolved in 100% ethyl alcohol on the tongue. Blood samples collected from 1 to 36 wk following exposure showed that all foxes were marked already at 1 wk and continued until 13 wk;...

Serologic survey for canine infectious diseases among sympatric swift foxes (Vulpes velox) and coyotes (Canis latrans) in southeastern Colorado.

Swift foxes (Vulpes velox) and coyotes (Canis latrans) are sympatric canids distributed throughout many regions of the Great Plains of North America. The prevalence of canid diseases among these two species where they occur sympatrically is presently unknown. From January 1997 to January 2001, we collected blood samples from 89 swift foxes and 122 coyotes on the US Army Piñon Canyon Maneuver Si...
